Our fourth trip will be to Spain. We prefer late summer or fall. What weeks are the best time to go in Sept? or otherwise?
Do not go to Southern Spain in the summer! It will be incredibly hot.
I usually travel in April/May or mid to late September/early October. Southern Spain can still be hot in September. In early September 2014 it was in the 90s every day, but there was a heat wave that year. If you can go later in the month it should be cooler. However, don’t let the heat prevent you from going unless you have a medical condition. Just carry water with you. We always have at least 2 liters when it’s hot. In 2011 we were in southern Spain in late October and the weather was great. Likewise, two times we’ve been there in mid to late May the weather has been fine. We never go June-August.
You might want to go as late in September as possible. We took this tour last October 9-23 (?) and the weather was very nice, but still quite warm on some days. I can imagine that September (and especially August) would have been brutally hot.
We had a few rainy days, too. And in October, the sun doesn’t come up until after 8am. But that means long evenings and late sunsets!
You will have a wonderful time.
Many RS Tours showing fully booked for this year.
I would choose Sep 22 departure over Sep 15 or Oct 13.
October!! September is still summer, October is more likely to have more comfortable (i.e. not as hot) weather.
We really enjoyed our time in Spain last year - so many beautiful & colorful sites and an interesting culture! We usually travel in early September, but for Spain we went the last week of September and first two weeks of October. The weather was perfect for warm evenings eating out and not too hot during the day. We had one morning of very light sprinkles; otherwise, sunshine the entire time.
Thanks everyone for your recommendations. We booked our trip for Sept 22- Oct 5 in Spain after a week in London.
Good travels to all

Many pose this loaded question: Where do I go? Answer: Spain is as different as the US, just the size of Texas. What "kind" of Spanish experience do you wish to have? Each region has a different feel, flavor, whatever you want to call it.
- Cataluña, Aragón and Navarra:, Barcelona, north east, Pamplona, San Sebastian,
- Spanish Med: Barcelona, Valencia, the coasts, Almeria, Alicante
- The Center: Madrid, Segovia, Ávila, Toledo, Castilla/La Mancha, Salamanca
- Extremadura: Hidden jewels like Cáceres (Game of Thrones sets), Mérida, Trujillo, and near Lisbon.
- Andalucia: The don't call it the Sartén de España for nothing (the frying pan of Spain). Sevilla, Córdoba, Ronda, Granada, the White Villages (Pueblos blancos), Málaga, Nerja
- Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria; Santiago de Compostela, Picos de Europa, Santillana del mar,
- And don't forget the Canaries and North Africa.
Late September & October are a great time for Spain, BTW. Enjoy!
