We will be taking a multi-generational trip to Barcelona in a year. We plan on renting an apartment. We would like to know if anyone has suggestions for a good neighborhood to be in, especially with young children in mind. Example: close to a park?
Thank you,
Leslie
Hi Leslie,
I stayed in the Eixample district last year, in a modern, spacious rented apartment on Carrer d'Arago. There were many families with children in the building and even a day care center in the central courtyard! We were within a 10-minute walk from the Sagrada Familia, and the Mercat de la Concepcio (large indoor market) was even closer. There are abundant parks, restaurants, and shops all over the district. The trip to the hardware store for duct tape and the pasta shop were highlights ... I encourage you to live like a temporary local! I found Barcelona to be wonderfully quirky, friendly, and offering something for everyone of any age to discover. The metro is convenient and easy to navigate, and if that's not your style, taxis are incredibly easy to flag, and take you anywhere in the city. Happy planning!
I stayed this summer for a month in the Born, which is right next to the Parc de la Ciutadella, the best park in Barcelona for young children. You can look at any map to see where it is and see the various public transportation options nearby. I used the Arc de Triomf metro stop, which was very convenient. You could stay on any side of the park and have good transportation and dining options. The area is very safe and it is within walking distance to the beach as well.
I would go along with Bill. If planning an extended stay with children I would choose somewhere near Parc de la Ciutadella with access to the beach at Barceloneta.
A quick search on vrbo revealed these 3/4 bedroom apartments ...

The Placa Catalunya is pretty central. I'd try to stay either walking distance or a short metro ride (no changes) from there. If you go west of there, toward the Block of Discord, the homes are newer and the neighborhoods quieter. That would be my first choice.
