My family of 5 is interested in making a day trip to a beach town while visiting Sevilla in early March. Can anyone recommend the best beach town, with a little something to see and a good place or two to eat? Thanks
Cadiz. We went to Cadiz last New Years day. It is about 1 hour and 30 minutes by train.
I would look at Google maps Trip Advisor or in your guide book for a place to eat.
Otherwise There is a Mercado there that gets good reviews but it was closed when we went

Cadiz is the oldest city in Europe and worth a visit.
Definitely Cadiz, you can walk all around the promontory of the old city, explore the centre and get plenty of sun on the south side.My impressions here:

Sounds like Cadiz is the front-runner. Thank you especially to the SLOW TRAVEL IN ITALY AND SPAIN blogger for the great info.
Cadiz is a large place frequented by cruise ships. Although there is plenty to see, the beach isn’t that great.
Sanlucar de Barrameda has a much better beach and a few sherry bodegas.
If it doesn’t have to be the coast, Jerez is worth a day trip from Seville to sample sherry and see the horse shows, amongst other attractions.
Not certain of your mode of transportation, so mine is a general comment. I’m not a big Cadiz fan and feel it’s only worth a few hours. Jennifer’s suggestion about Sanlucar de la Barrameda is a good one. However, in March, most of the small beach towns in that area (Rota, Chipiona, Sanlucar) are pretty much shut dow since it isn’t tourist season. I doubt you’ll be spending much time at the beach, so going to a bodega would be a good use of time. On the other hand, from Cadiz, you can take a ferry over to Rota or Puerto de Santa Maria if you got bored with Cadiz.
