Best bargain restaurant in Madrid

Just a 5 minute walk from Puerta del Sol is what may be the best deal in Spain. Rick recommends Restaurante Puerto Rico and I wholeheartedly agree. This place is just far enough away from the tourists that is is a favourite of locals. We were the only tourists there and everyone else seemed to be on a first name basis with the staff.

A bottle of house wine €3.00 and it was pretty good. Roasted half chicken dinner €4.00, excellent. We came back a second night. Thank you Rick for another great suggestion.

I agree. We had a very pleasant meal here, our first jet-lagged evening in Madrid. We arrived on the early side (with some other tourists) because we just wanted to eat and get to bed. But the meal was very pleasant and by the time we left the place was filled with locals.

I would agree! We are currently in Madrid and thought we would try this restaurant based on the OP'S comments. We had lunch there today and really enjoyed the roast chicken along with a decent bottle of white wine. The portions are generous and their other offerings look very appetizing too. We had a first and second course with dessert (a flan, delicious), bread and a bottle of wine for €22.00 for two.
The place is small and fills up quickly. They open at 1:00 for lunch. We would return to this restaurant if we had more time in Madrid.
