Best area to stay in Madrid

Hello I'm looking for the best area to stay for 5 days, close to subway and also with some charm and lost of coffee places and bars...
I will like a place where it makes you feel good as soon you walk out ... a really cool place to wake up to and walk to a cool coffee places before we start the day :-) ...with very easy access
Thank you

Just a small note: The Retiro district is on the east side of Retiro park, a fabulous place for restaurants but not many hotels in that zone. All of the districts mentioned above are in central Madrid.

You might not need a subway. I walk almost everywhere in Madrid and I imagine I am a bit older than you are, or perhaps more than "a bit" older. The only time I take a taxi (or could take a bus) is when I venture to a restaurant pretty far out of the center. (I stay in the barrio del Almagro but would not recommend for you on this trip)

There are a TON of posts about where to stay in Madrid on this forum, and also on Trip Advisor, but the poster above has given you solid ideas. (Gran Via is much too crowded and busy for me, but it is convenient)

Just find a hotel in your budget; there are a million cafes and restaurants and shops almost anywhere in the center.

I'll tell you: If I were booking an apartment and wanted to be near great modern restaurants, I would look at the Retiro district.

I would not want to stay in La Latina or Malasana, but that's only my personal choice.

Gran Via is a wide, bustling area with lots of chain shops but convenient for Metro and some sights. But agin, major sites are scattered all over the city, so maybe post which lies are of interest to you and your party.

I would just go with a flat that looks great.,..you'll find cool places all over the city..

List a few contenders and then we can let you know what we think of their location..

Salamanca is more than 200 km’s away from Madrid. There is no way she can get there on foot or by subway from Madrid.

Also, you asked the same question a couple of weeks ago and got some useful replies;

So stay in Salamanca. That's where I always stay, in the barrio Almagro. But anywhere is Salamanca would be great and you certainly will get great restaurants and cafes all around you.
