Best Airline for Barcelona

Hi,

My husband and I are going on the "Best of Spain” tour in September 2019. We have yet to buy our airline tickets and are wondering which is the best airline to use for this trip? We will be flying out of Boston to Barcelona and flying home from Madrid back to Boston. I have a past history of DVT’s, so need to fly Premium Economy or better — depending on price. I am not familiar with most of the airlines who fly that corridor. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Debbie

Well, if you have THE Delorean to travel back in time, you do not need an airliner :-)

Wow, it appears there are no nonstops from Boston to Barcelona - I never would have expected that? There is a nonstop from Madrid to Barcelona coming home on Iberia, which is a British Airways partner. You could fly round-trip nonstop to and from Madrid, and take the 2.5-hour train from Madrid to Barcelona, or the one-stop from Boston to Barcelona connects through Madrid anyway on Iberia. (I found this by searching on kayak.com).

Perhaps you mean 2019? Or is it 2020?
“Best” is usually chosen as to schedule and price.

I would not expect a non stop to Barcelona from Boston. Flights from BOS are to London, Zurich, Rome, Paris, Dublin. We always fly to Europe from BOS to LHR and change flights.

Yes, 2019! No time travel! ;-)

My biggest question is around the quality of Premium Economy for each airline. Comparisons in terms of leg room and value for money. For example, I have flown British Airways many times — experiencing coach, premium economy and business class. Coach is absolutely unbearable as I am 5’ 10” and have to nearly sit sideways. Premium economy is only slightly better and business class was a luxury I experienced only when I flew for work.

Cabin classes differ so much by airlines and while I have spent time looking at leg room stats, etc., nothing beats another person’s opinion based on experience. I have already experienced two DVT’s and two resulting PE’s due to airline travel. My doctor wants me to have lots of leg room and the ability to get up and walk around. Two years ago we flew Icelandic Air and found a great deal on business class when we traveled to Sweden. Are there any hidden gems for travel to Spain that won’t break the bank?
