I have not stayed there but my parents did. But you can imagine how long ago that stay was! But I'd look t it for sure; again it's. classic, kind of legendary, Spanish hotel. not glitzy but elegant.... Put it in the category of places like the Alfonso XIII in Sevilla, Grand Hotel La Toja in Galicia, the Maria Cristina in San Sebastián..that type of old world hotel but on the sea... I'm guessing they get a lot of repeat visitors in season...

One thing I would check for, in season, is if they have any weddings booked. There was a wedding at La Toja when I was there and I thought it was fun to peek in at the festivities, but if you think you might be bothered by that, ask them.....that would go for any upscale large hotel, I guess....
The other thing I'd keep in mind with these classic older hotels is that the rooms can vary a lot,, with a big jump in price comes sometimes a really huge jump in size, view, furnishings, et etc.

There's another hotel of of that ilk further up the coast outside Begur, but that's further from Barcelona.
HOTEL AIGUABLAVA, another grand older property with visitors repeating sometimes for generations. but that one is four star and Gavina is 5 star, if that means anything...
