Beach time, swimming, Nerja Malaga area?

Greetings Fellow Travelers,
My husband and I are traveling to Spain, (first time) and wanted to finish off our trip with some quiet beach time (honeymoon-type) feel- room hopefully looking at the sea etc. for 2-3 nights and doing water activities- snorkel and swim.....(beaching it!)

We absolutely loved Cinque Terre when we visited in 08' and would love that kind of feel/nature/quiet. So, I am reading so many conflicting things on Costa Del Sol and wondered if you folks think we could achieve this feel or have any thoughts/suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Our main trip is
Barcelona- stay with friends,

Costa Brava w/ same friends for a couple days- Dali house and museum,

Fly to Seville- stay 3 nights

Drive to Cordoba for day

Drive to Ronda, stay in Ronda,

Explore hill towns and Drive to Granada, stay in Granada 2 or 3 nights

Drive to Nerja area????

Fly back to Barcelona from Malaga???

If you just want to go to the beach and not get the feel of real Spain, Costa del Sol is for you. It's nothing but tourists and British ExPats. If you want more locals, then head towards Nerja, Motril, Salobrena, or Mojacar.

Thank you! Do you know if those places mentioned allow for good swimming?

Do you already have your flights? If you are flying out of Barcelona, there are beaches in the city itself, as well as lots of beach towns nearby (Sitges is the best known). If you're flying out of Malaga, then you can look to beaches on the Costa del Sol as well as further northeast (which may be marginally less crowded).

However, I'm not sure any of these places will have quiet, particularly in the summer. If you're looking near Barcelona, Enric (our poster who lives there) may know of less crowded Catalonian beach areas.

We walked on the beach at Salobrena. It is very large, wide, and sandy. The stayed at the parador at Mojacar and alternated our time between to pool and the beach. The sandy beach isn't as wide as Salobrena, but swimming was fine. I haven't been to the beach at Motril for a few decades, so am not certain what it's like now. It used be be very nice.

Oh my goodness...this definitely makes me rethink Nerja...What about Bolonia? What do you guys think about that area? Or Tarife?
