It’s only about €30-€40 for a taxi from BCN to Central Barcelona so your hotel is trying to make quite a tidy sum off of you. Uber is €29. You can also take the local Rodalies commuter train directly from BCN into town for about €5. There also is an Express Airport bus that goes into central Barcelona for about €5. All these transit modes are safe
If you have any questions ask at the airport information desk. They are very helpful.

I was in Barcelona in October and took the aeroport bus from the airport to Placa Catalunya and then walked a very short distance to my hotel. The aeroport bus was a few euros and easy to take.

I am in my late 70's and also travel solo.

They are called pickpockets but they are thieves and they are watching for vulnerble tourists. Be aware of your personal belongings but for the most part, Barcelona is very safe.

Barcelona is a great city.

Another solo, female traveler. I took a taxi both ways between BCN and hotel in March 2024. Taxi rank.

I, of course, would not have accepted a ride from anyone who happened upon me and asked "Taxi?". I didn't encounter that at BCN, but not unheard of everywhere. (including the last time I landed at my home base ORD) Obviously avoid that approach!!

Safe!, don't concern yourself. Taxis are highly regulated in Barcelona, the +11000 taxis operate with strict rules so every driver is to be accounted for (in principle). Taxis in the city are painted a distinctively black and yellow pattern, very easy to spot. If the green pilot on the roof is on they can be halted in the street by raising your hand.

A ride from the airport to anywhere in the city centre should cost no more than 35-40€ -under normal traffic circumstances.

Yet, depending on your hotel location, you might be better off taking the Aerobus: 6€ only -also safe.

As a general rule, Barcelona is a safe city -as per international standards and compared to similar-sized cities elsewhere. This is not to say crime is inexistent, but it shouldn't be a major concern. Most of the existing crime is petty theft and pickpocketing, no gangs, no guns.
