I have a few days before a RS trip starts in Barcelona and want to visit Girona and Tarragona via train.
How do I get from BCN airport to a main train station?
Thanks in advance.

The Rodalies de Barcelona (inter urban rail) line R2 goes from Airport T2 Terminal to Barcelona Sants (inter city station) and Passeig de Gracia (city centre). A free shuttle operates between T1 Terminal and the T2 station.
June,
Here is the website to check the Rodalies schedule:http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/cercanias/barcelona/index.html
You will want to choose the following from the drop down menu:

Note that the schedule for regional trains offered by Renfe in the above link isn't properly maintained and sometimes it's far from accurate. The regional train service was transferred back in 2010 to the government of Catalonia (the autonomous region you're visiting) and now is managed by a different authority. You better check this site instead: http://rodalies.gencat.cat/en/index.html
Yet to visit both Girona and Tarragona from Barcelona, despite being within the same region, you're however better off taking a long distance fast train, type AVANT or AVE, which are indeed still managed by RENFE (confusing, huh?). The reason being the travel time is drastically reduced in comparison to regional trains as they hardly stop in any intermediate stations.
Thanks so much for the detailed replies.
