Baztan Valley

I'm planning a loop route a portion of which involves going from Salies de Bearn in France to Bilbao going through the Baztan Valley, spending one night in the valley hopefully about half way along. Has anyone driven this route? Do you have a suggestion as to what town would be a good overnight spot? Elizondo is one thought but I haven't found a overnight place that sings to me. I'm also getting tingle of cold feet about embarking through a territory for which I can find so little information. We are a senior couple and speak very little Spanish but can learn a bit more before our trip which is planned for September. Any comments/suggestions will be very much appreciated.

The Baztan valley is an extremely beautiful area, with a profound Basque atmosphere. Elizondo is the capital of the valley and there should be nice places to stay there. Worth to stay one night, all the area is absolutely stunning with deep green valleys and the Pyrenees range. Excellent roads, very well signed, winding, you´ll see all signs written both in Basque and in Spanish. I would no doubt take this route.

Thank you for giving me the fortitude to continue with my plans to travel the Baztan Valley. It looks incredibly beautiful and now I am really looking forward to this portion of the trip. I'm also trying to see if I can squeeze one more day in for this area. Thank you for this information.
