Basque Zone to Paris

My husband and I will be in Mondragon, Spain for a week in May. We then plan to travel to Paris to visit friends. I would much prefer to go by train (or possibly drive, although that may be a very long day). I think we can get by bus from Mondragon to San Sebastian, and then we should be able to get by train from San Sebastian to Paris, but I am having trouble working out the details, or the best place to book tickets. And do I book tickets now or wait until we get to Spain? Has anyone made this trip? I would love advice!

Try Rome2rio.com. It looks like the train will take about 9 hours. The quickest route is to take a bus to Bilbao and then fly to Paris for under $100.

From San Sebastian to Paris is 7 hours on the afternoon (13:00) train departure, with a connection (as usual) at the border town of Hendaye. The second leg by TGV is the part to book ahead for an advance discount; you can compare prices sold by RailEurope and CapitaineTrain. However, I agree that flying from Bilbao is easy; I recall that airport being pretty small and easy to navigate when I flew from there to London.
