She loves white wine. He loves red. 1st trip to this area. Rental car from Madrid and flying home from Longorno. He speaks a little bit of Spanish. Would love to avoid tourists like ourselves. Haha.
You probably mean Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, not to be mistaken with Rioja D.O. wine region (airport is really tiny, are you sure you´re flying out of this city?). Quite a few golf courses around Bilbao, Donostia-San Sebastian, Hondarribia and Vitoria-Gazteiz, the capital of the Basque Country. Rioja D.O. is divided into 3 areas: Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta and Rioja Oriental. In the first two you´ll find probably the best wineries, around Laguardia, Labastida, Haro, Elciego...so plenty of choices (over 500 wineries, many of them centuries old). Around Bilbao, cannot miss Getxo, Plentzia, Bermeo, Mundaka, Lekeitio...Around Donostia-San Sebastian, Getaria, Zumaia, Pasai Donibane and Hondarribia are must-sees. Beautiful 7,000 year-old salt valley in Añana, can´t miss it either. So many places to visit in such a small area...
