Basque Country Oct. 2019

Looking for the best way to get to Bayonne, France to start trip and leave out of Bilbao, Spain.
We are flying out of Chicago to either Paris or Madrid. Thought about taking another flight from Paris or Madrid to Biarritz then leaving Bilbao back to one of those hubs. With stops and delays it will be around 14 hours of travel by air. The other option is to take a train from Paris or Madrid. Does anyone have any idea on how close the train stations are to either of these airports?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

I flew to Biarritz (changed planes in Paris). From the Biarritz airport took a metered taxi to the tour hotel in Bayonne. Rick gives detailed info about the public bus from airport to hotel but in light of jet lag we chose taxi (15-20 min ride). Can’t remember the fare but it wasn’t outrageous.

Hope you enjoy the tour as much as we did!!

We are flying into Paris two days early and taking the AGV train from the Montparnasse station to Bayonne, arriving around noon of October 4th - the first day of our "RS Basque Tour". At the conclusion of the tour, we are flying to Lisbon from Bilbao, and, from there, fly to Madrid and AVE train to Barcelona with a few days in each prior to our return to the west coast. It is my understanding the Bilbao airport is the largest of any encountered locations on the Basque tour - and, of course, the endpoint of the tour.
We prefer to make the most of Transcontinental - Transatlantic flights, although we are 1000 miles farther from Paris than you. Also. Norwegian Air Shuttle offers very low non-stop fares Oakland to Paris and Barcelona to Oakland. In as much as Norwegian does not serve PDX (Portland), our nearest airport - Oakland becomes our long haul departure airport.

Just buy an open jaw ticket plane ticket if it is not that much more expensive e.g.
Chicago to Biarritz
Bibao to Chicago
