We would like to see this area and not sure whether to rent a car or go by train. Is there a road Between Cadaques and the Basque Country if we want to drive via there or a train?

If you want to take the train, you've got to get down to Barcelona first. From there you can get to either Bilbao or San Sebastian via Zaragoza. It'd probably take nine hours or so.
Of course there are roads, your choices are either north or south of the Pyrenees. Either would take about the same amount of time and both would be about an hour faster than the train if you made only gas stops and one quick stop for lunch.

Sorry , I meant to say we would start in Barcelona where we will start a Rick tour but would like to go a little earlier to see more of Spain. Thanks for your comments. I was trying to see if there was a way from Cadaques to San Sebastion. The map does not show much. We would like to stay one night in Cadaques area and then to SB for another one or two and return to B a different way maybe thru Zaragoza so we are not repeating our route back. Do you think this would be feasible by car?

I say this a lot. Spain is a big country. We tend to think of European countries as like mid-sized states. Wisconsin is the 26th largest state in the US. Spain is 2.5 times as large as WI.
Going from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic is a long way. It is 6 be hours of hard driving and you would be in France, not Spain, or 7 hours of hard driving through Spain.
Why not drop in on the lovely little hill town of Talarn? And visit a couple other hilltop locations near by. There is an airbnb in Talarn and bet some accommodations in near by Tremp (not as neat as Talarn only one mile away). Mur Castle, a winery, towns clinging to mountain sides. And in Talarn there are three restaurants, but give Lola's a try.
Do you want to experience Spain or drive a car?

I agree...concentrate on quality and not quantity....Return another day and see more of what you missed on this trip. That is what I have done several years now, and I still have more to see!!!

You are right! How far is Talarn from Barcelona? I can see Tremp on the map but not Talarn. Not sure if we will rent car or train it yet. Thank you so much. The other wrinkle is that it will be February when we go! Not sure what will be open etc. we have stayed in Airbnbs several times and have had good luck. What is the one on Talarn you mentioned ?
