Barrio de las Letras area - Madrid

Greetings - we are considering staying at a B&B in this area for 4 nights. Just checking to see if anyone out there can tell me about the area: convenient to walk to/from; considered a safe area; etc.

We already have reservations in Toledo - planned on using Toledo as a base, but now second guessing our decision. Thinking it might make more sense to stay in Madrid. Flying in to Madrid from Edinburgh; when we leave Madrid, we will be going to Cordoba.

Thanks for your help/advice.

I can't tell you quite yet about the area, but I have a short let apartment there in November for four days. I chose that area for its immediate access to the museums and Retiro Park as well as close to Atocha train station. There is a great street known for excellent tapas, theSan Anton Market is close by as well. Several subway lines to get you across town, or walk. One of the recommended spots for rooftop drinks with a view is closeby...and there are places for groceries.
If you are heading on to Cordoba, you still have to go to Madrid to get there. Also, if staying in Toledo, it means you will be taking the same trains as those commuting to Madrid every work day. This reduces availability and increases prices.
