Since priorities are often different among travelers:

1) What is most important for your family? A memorable hotel that might be unique to Barcelona? Do you prefer older/newer?
2) Price range.....lowest cost, mid-range, or a bit of a splurge?
3) Multiple rooms (or all crammed into one room)?
4) Quieter side street or in the heart of all the action (which could mean various levels of night-time noise)?
5) Have you identified which sights you really want to see (that way we can advise re: best location)? For certain sights you will want to pre-book entries.
6) Are the amenities of a large hotel more important or the unique charm of a smaller, locally owned one more important?
7) Breakfast to be included, or grab something on the go to get about sightseeing?
8) Is your family good about walking a few blocks, or do you need quick access to the Metro/taxis, etc.?

The Eixample are of Barcelona offers easier access to some of the Gaudi sights, but the Barri Gotic area offers the special charm of the older section of Barcelona. We split our time with hotels in each area. Along the Ramblas there are several nice hotels, too, but you could experience lots of street partying noise, depending on what time of year you will be visiting.

Share your preferences, and we'll all then make suggestions.

You'll enjoy Barcelona and want to return.

Safe and happy travels.

Located under Montjuic on Parallel, this hotel is close to the cruise terminal and with easy access to the airport (20min by taxi) as well. http://www.hotelbarcelonauniversal.com/en/
The Ramblas are within walking distance, and the nearby Raval district has some great restaurants and bars.
Metro Line 2 (purple) is right by the hotel for access to Passeig de Gracia and Sagrada Familia.

You might consider the hotel Continental Barcelona. We stayed there several nights a few years ago. It was reasonably priced, they offered complimentary snacks and drinks (juices, beer wine) 24/7. The staff were helpful very nice..when the clerk saw the RS tour book under my arm one morning he told me he'd take 10% off the bill at check out. Frankly, it might be considered a little funky or shabby by some but we were fine and enjoyed our stay. Tripadvisor reviews today read like our stay then. It is on the Rambla and a minute walk to the airport bus on Placa Catalunya for your departure the next day. One point, too...we also arrived by cruise ship. Hailed a cab, told him in English and Spanish where we wanted to go, showed him the name and address in print. No problem. Except halfway there he told us that his permit allowed him to only drive up las Ramblas so far so we got out and walked about 20 or 30 minutes to the hotel. We figured we had saved a few € and made the best of it, but with 5 and luggage YMMV so I mention our one experience with a Barcelona cruise cab FYI. Have fun.

Andante Hotel! Clean connecting family rooms, highly rated on Trip-Advisor, mid-priced, close to metro stop, short walk to Las Ramblas and a quick 2 euro shuttle from cruise port. Our family of 4 stayed here prior to a Christmas cruise and we were very pleased with the choice!
