Barcelona trip at the end of May

Hello,

I have brief conference in Barcelona at the Centre Forum 1 and plan to stay another week. My husband and I would like to see a few sights, a couple of museums, and we are really beach/water sport people. We enjoy brief hikes/walk (2 or 3 miles), scuba, just reading on the beach and so forth. We are also foodies and love coffee.

We will have a car and would like to travel to a few surrounding beach cities for day excursions, but we really try and avoid tours.

What would you suggest?

Thanks, Michelle from Virginia

For only a day trip, you could go to Sitges.
If you can change locations, Begur would be good.

For scuba diving you go to Estartit. The Illes Medes offer a variety of dive sites, including the túnel de la Pedrosa, the túnel de la Ferriola, túnel del Dofí and túnel de la Vaca. Here, you'll find starfish, lobsters, octopus, and corals at just ten meters. At twenty meters, you'll find a vast array of animal species and beautiful reefs, creating a magical display of color.

Furió Fitó is considered one of the most impressive dive sites around Barcelona. Its depth ranges from twelve to sixty meters, and visibility is highly dependent on weather conditions. Virtually every species of vertebrate and invertebrate that swims in the Mediterranean Sea swims here. The site is located approximately one kilometer from Cap de Begur and three kilometers from the coast.
Depth: 12 m to 60 m

Cap de Begur is located in the east of the town of Begur. This dive site consists of two reefs. One lies between fourteen and forty-two meters deep, along a steep wall, and the other begins at twenty-five meters. Here you'll find red coral, polyps in various colors, gilthead seabream, scorpionfish, and lobster, among other species.
Depth: 14 m to 42 m

About three kilometers from the harbor of Calella de Palafrugell lie "Els Ullastres." These are three underwater mountains. A buoy is visible in the water, indicating the location of the mountains. Diving ranges from eight meters to forty meters. Scorpionfish and bream can also be found here.
Depth: 8 m to 40 m
