Hello, I need some help deciding on the best way to get from Barcelona to San Sebastian.
Train?, car? or just book a flight? we will be traveling in the fall.
Any suggestions/thoughts would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
Lille
Lille,
According to Renfe, it looks like there is 1-2 trains running this route & travel time is 5.5- 5.75 hours.
Check train schedules here:http://www.renfe.com/
You may consider buying your train ticket in advance (up to 90 days) at a considerable discount but make sure you pay with PayPal as the Renfe website may not take your credit card.
If you choose to fly, it may take around the same amount of time (or longer) since you will need to be at the airport at least 1-1.5 hours prior to your flight, then upon arrival, you will need to take a taxi, bus or train into the city.
Vueling has a direct flight in the late afternoon. If you book well enough ahead to grab a cheap fare I think it's the more attractive option. Barcelona Airport is very efficient and close to the city centre.
My wife and I have made the drive several times. It's only about 4 hours, very nice interstate (about €30 in tolls) the entire way and there are several towns and sites along the way to break up the drive. Or you can plan on an extra night to see Rioja. Either way enjoy SS. It's one of our favorite places anywhere.
