Barcelona to Marseille

Hello, we are trying to plan a trip to Marseille from Barcelona in the fall
Do you know if the train is the most convenient way to travel? I've looked at airline tickets and there doesn't seem to be a direct flight, the ones I have found either go to Madrid or Paris first, so I thought the train might be a better option since some of the flights take longer to get there than the train.
Should we just rent a car?
thanks for any feedback

Vueling has one nonstop flight a day for 91 euro.

There is a direct afternoon TGV train at 16:45, 4.5 hours. Reserve tickets about 3 months ahead for the best rates; you could compare prices at CapitaineTrain.com or RailEurope.com.

Renting a car has no particular benefit unless you're making small-town stops along the way, and is expensive if you don't pick it up and return it within one country.

How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it; does not sell French tickets.

How much time for this trip?
Are you returning to Barcelona?

A slow journey by train would be ...
Barcelona > Girona > Costa Brava > Collioure > Montpellier > Avignon > Marseille
