Barcelona to Malaga to Gibraltar and back

Hi travel loving friends. my family of seven have plans to be in Spain from Dec 18-29th 2017. We would like to visit both Malaga and Gibraltar. We land in Barcelona and fly out of the same city. Has anyone planned a trip that you can share. We want to be economical as possible but want to see as much as we can. Any suggestions such travel between, stay and dos and donts would be much appreciated.

Vueling has several nonstop flights between Barcelona and Malaga. You'll probably want to book those early for the better rates. From Malaga to Gibraltar, Granada, or other side trips will typically be by bus or rental cars, as trains don't serve much of the south coast of Spain.

Your time is fairly short. You are flying into northern Spain and mention wanting to see two southern locations that most travelers would not rank as high as Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Cordoba or Granada. You are going to spend quite a bit of time getting to Malaga and Gibraltar. Have you been to Spain before and seen the places more commonly considered the top sights?

Thanks Acraven. I have been to Madrid in Spain. Wanted to see Gibraltar and I heard that Malaga is beautiful. Yes we will reconsider our plans. Taking ideas at this time to make it optimal. Since there are 7 of us we need to look into all angles.
