We are spending 3 nights in Barcelona then have 2 additional nights before heading to Granada. Where would you recommend staying between the two? Preferably on the coast as this is in a couple of weeks. Thanks.

Undecided. I think it depends on where we go. Train would be nice but I assume we need a car to get to Granada from the coast.

Off the top of my head, if you're driving then Valencia is an option. It's a very nice city, on the coast, with beaches and with many interesting sights and she is also home of paella. It's also roughly half way so breaks the journey sort of equally. On the other hand, getting from Barcelona to Valencia by train is easy enough, but from Valencia to Granada by railway is likely a tiresome journey. You could use the train to Valencia and then hire a car for the second leg. One route even takes you via Lorca or Murcia if you have time to stop.
An alternative would be to fly straight from Barcelona to Granada, then going to Ubeda/Baeza for two nights, before returning to Granada. For some reason Ubeda/Baeza don't get mentioned much on here, but they are beautiful cities and small but major Andalucia destinations.
