Hello, I was wondering if I could get some advise on how to get to and from Barcelona/Girona for a day trip. We have dinner reservations at a restaurant and it seems like the last train back to Barcelona leaves Girona around 9pm, we were trying to avoid spending the night in Girona and renting a car for the day, does anyone know if there is another easy way to get back to Barcelona the same night?
I looked briefly at Sagales and Sarfa bus sites, train schedules, and Rome2Rio. I don't think you have any public transport option and taxi could cost $150.
Lille, this might be a possibility, although a little cumbersome: you could get from Girona out to Girona Airport, either by bus or taxi, and then it appears that Sagales has a bus from the airport into Barcelona at about 10:45 pm, most days of the week. That might give you an extra hour or more in Girona. Maybe someone else can comment on the feasibility of this. I have been to Girona but never to the airport there.
You can check and compare many airport transfer booking agents with www.cabissimo.com, if you don't find what you are looking for, just send them an email and in 24/48 hours they'll offer you a full price comparison. Here you have the direct link for comparing prices from Barcelona city to Girona airport: https://www.cabissimo.com/airports/gerona-airport/cities/barcelona-city-center
Don't complicate things.... you can get a hotel in Girona for quite reasonable prices (http://www.girona.cat/turisme/eng/allotjaments.php) A cab to Barcelona will cost you much more than that. And as per buses or trains, well, you saw: 9ish for the train and 10:45 for the night bus FROM the airport of Girona -which involves a taxi from the centre to the airport. If you choose to stay in Girona overnight, next morning, the first fast train departs at 6:46 and you are in Barcelona at 7:30... for just 16€ each. Besides, strolling the old district of Girona at night also has its charm... :))
