In December 2023, we took the train from Barcelona to Girona for the day. Below was our train schedule:
9:30-10:09 AVANT 34063
17:51-18:30 AVANT 34192

The train station to Girona Cathedral is a 16 minute walk. Girona was lovely which is why it was also chosen as a film location for the Game of Thrones. We did not visit the Dali Museum. Enjoy!

I've spent multiple days in Girona, but you won't be the first travelers to combine Girona and the Dali Theatre-Museum into a single day-trip.

The cities are on the same rail line. They are served by both fast trains and regional trains. With your condensed fimeframe, you'll want to use the fast trains for most of the trip, but you can consider a regional train for the last part of the return trip, obtaining some schedule flexibility. You needn't buy the regional tickets in advance, and they will likely be cheaper than tickets for the fast trains. You can save money on tickets for the fast trains by buying those tickets well in advance, but check the change/cancellation policies on renfe.com and consider how firm your plans are before making such purchases.

The fast trains and regional trains use different stations in Figueres. Fast trains go to Figueres Vilafant; regional trains use the station simply called "Figueres". Figueres Vilafant in particular is something of a walk from the DTM. A city bus connects the two stations and has a stop not too far from the museum. However, in my experience that bus doesn't wait for late trains. There may be a taxi waiting at Figueres Vilafant when the fast train arrives if you don't want to walk.

It's difficult to predict how much time you'll want to spend at the DTM. I am not a fan of surrealism, but I was there for over 2 hours; a French bus tour blasted through in no more than an hour. The nearby jewelry collection, covered by the same ticket, takes 15-30 minutes, I'd guess. Tickets for the DTM are timed, but I was told in 2019 that the jewelry collection can be visited either before the time shown on the ticket or after you've gone through the DTM.

Although I don't believe the DTM sells out completely much in advance, individual entry times can become unavailable. The museum does get bus tours, and you wouldn't want to arrive right after a bus tour and have to wait. Since you'll be expected to show up at the time specified on your ticket, I'd be inclined to visit the museum in Figueres first. The tricky part will be deciding the timing of your trip from Figueres to Girona.
