Will be in Barcelona for 10 days next month, first time there. We would like to go to the Dali exhibits in Figueres, by train, and on to Cadaques, by bus, and get back to Barcelona the same day. Train/bus schedules look tight but possible. Rather than stress over missing a train or bus I'm considering renting a car. Any feedback or suggestions on this agenda? Thanks, Ken G.
It can be done, but will be rushed. The house at Figueres would be my number one choice..the location is amazing, literally right on the water, and the contents are visually intriguing. You MUST get a ticket for admission, and be there on time. The drive along the coast is beautiful with Olive trees on the hill sides, some planted by the Romans, I understand. A car would be my choice, but limit what is on your schedule....eliminate some even!!!
We were there in June. We stayed in Tossa de Mar and rented a car to see the Dali house for 10:00 a.m. and then had tickets to the Museum at 6:00 pm. The GPS gave us terrible directions and we were frustrated and lost a few times. Ultimately we got there in time and we were glad to see the house and take the tour. It is really wonderful. We then drove to Figureres. Not a long drive and we had lots of time to kill before we could enter the museum. Again, we were really happy to see the museum, but it was a really long day. If such a thing exists, I would recommend a bundled tour of both locations that includes transportation. Good luck, buen viaje, and enjoy!
The house is in Port Illgat, not Figueres. The museum is in Figueres. Port Illgat is very close to Cadaques along the coast.
I would not try and do Cadaques by bus along with Figueres and Port Illgat all in the same day. You would be far better served to rent a car and even then it is a very long day. I have done it.
If you want to visit the house in Port Illgat, you must make advanced reservations online. It is very much worth it, especially after seeing the museum. Cadaques is a great costal town, a lot like a Greek Island in character and beauty. And nearby is a beautiful national park with rock formations that inspired Dali.
Of course, if you could stay a night in Cadaques, that would work much better.
I have done a day trip just to Cadaques by car from Barcelona, and its a long day.
I would not attempt public transport options, especially if you want to add in Figueres as well.
Rent a car and head to Cadaques for an overnight, stopping at Figueres on your way.
Return to Barcelona the following day after the morning in Port Lligat and afternoon in Girona.
