Barcelona to Figeures, and then to Perpignan by train

We're planning to travel in late June from Barcelona to Figeures by train to see the Dali museum, and then from there to Perpignan, France, to catch an overnight train to Paris.

We already have our overnight train tickets from Perpignan to Paris, but wanted to know if we need to pre-purchase the tickets from Barcelona to Figueres, and then Figueres to Perpignan, or whether those are the types of tickets that we can buy at the station just prior to travel?

Thanks!

You can buy those tickets at the station. Barcelona-Figueres is served by regional trains that are not reserved. Several afternoon departures toward Perpignan also make use of regional trains, instead of the more expensive TGV.

Local trains may be a little slower but usually cheaper and no reservation required.
Figueres-Perpignan will see you needing to change trains at the border - Portbou / Cerbere.
Why didn't you book the TGV direct to Paris from Girona (3 per day) ??

Thanks - not taking TGV because my kids wanted to have the experience of taking an overnight train. :-)

Actually Indian train was not too bad. No food on board that you would eat that's all.
Scariest night train I took was along the French Rivera in 1989, travelling Genoa-Nice-Barcelona.
I think the route no longer operates, perhaps due to safety and security concerns.
