Barcelona Taste Tour

Hello Fellow Travelers,

I am making plans for a first ever visit to Barcelona (and to Europe), in mid-September. I was thinking the the Barcelona Taste tour would be a great way to immerse myself in the local culture, in the hopes of getting over some culture shock that I am anticipating.

Anyone ever gone on this tour? Good/bad??

I am a solo traveler from the States. Lots of other questions I'll be asking across the forums!

Thanks everyone, this is a great site and service enhanced by all your experiences (good & bad) and knowledge.

Can't help you on this "taste tour", I live here and don't do taste tours, in any case, I DIY these tours LOL!.... but I'll be pleased to try to help in other areas. Fire away!

John, i’m not sure just which food tour you are referring to. I went on the Taste Barcelona Culture and Food Tour when I arrived in Barcelona in 2016 and it was terrific. Great food and drink, and a worthwhile walking tour through 4 downtown neighborhoods. It is more expensive than other such tours, but it is 5 hours long and it involves plentiful and delicious food and beverages. www..taste-Barcelona.com.

Hi Enric, I understand, as you live there! For a first ever visit, this tour seems a good way to get a "flavor" for Barcelona. Instead of this post, I will ask any subsequent questions in separate posts, as I'll have a few that aren't necessarily related to this enquiry. I look forward to your insight.

Hi Larry, Here is the link I should have included to begin with: http://thebarcelonataste.com/
Is that the same as the tour you mentioned? (I get an error that the server cannot be found when I try to open your link.)

Hi John...planning for September 2019 myself and have seen some information on Festa de la Merce' in Barcelona, which takes place every September. Not sure what it's all about yet but from what I've read online it looks like a festival not to be missed. If you go be sure to post or email me directly ([email protected]) and let me know what you thought of it and if its worthwhile to plan around.
Safe travels. Donna

John, the one I am talking about is different. The web site I listed earlier had one, maybe two, errors. First, two periods after www. That won’t fly. Also, I used a capital B, don’t know if that makes a difference.
Try: www.taste-barcelona.com.
Good luck, Larry
PS: speaking of tapas aka pintxos, I just a few minutes ago arrived in San Sebastián, quite a town!

Hi Donna,

Wow, I was completely unaware of this huge festival. (Too much research on tapas, Bar Bodegas, beer... you get the idea). It coincides very nicely with my time in Barcelona, as it is being held this year from 21-24, September. Here is the link to a thread on the festival: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/spain/la-merce-festival-barcelona. Thanks to Enric for providing important historical significance.

Thank you for mentioning this festival. If I partake, I'll definitely share my experiences.

Hi Larry,

Yes indeed, yours is a different tasting tour from the one I referenced. Always nice to have another option, and the cost is quite comparable.

Those of you near Washington DC, take the opportunity to visit the Smithsonian Folklife Festival which is celebrated from today June 27th to July 4th 2018. This year Catalonia is one of the invited nations and you'll be able to learn and experience first hand a bit of our culture.... THEN you can start planning your next visit to my little nation, LOL!!

There'll surely be info about our "festes majors" (major festivals) so you'll be able to have a taste of the more traditional aspects of La Mercè festival as well.
