Take screen shots from Google maps and print them out at home if you can’t find one in a store. You could also send an email to the Barcelona tourist office and ask if it would send you a Plano Turístico of the city. Alternatively, when you land in Barcelona visit the tourist office and ask for one. A final option is to find one online and save it to your phone, then see if you could get it printed at an office supply store.

It is my understanding after reading all the Barcelona books I could find that TIs have free maps.

Highly recommended, the Rick Steves Pocket Barcelona book, $14 at Barnes/Nobel or order from RS. The included color map is totally useful unless you are venturing far and wide from the city center and old sections. Plus, the suggested walks, attractions descriptioins, and commentaries will help you navigate efficiently without wasting too much of your time.

Remember to buy tickets far in advance for the major sites and museums.

Before I got hooked on the CityMapper app I liked the laminated folded maps from Streetwise. I see on Amazon there is a Streetwise Barcelona although be sure to get the latest version if you do order.

If you don't need a high level of detail your hotel may have maps at the desk.

I haven't looked at Rick's Barcelona book but in some of his previous guide books he did not always have NORTH at the top of the page as you might expect. I THINK I read that he corrected that but just make sure. I also suspect if that were still the case BogieSan would have noted it in his post, though.

Some of Rick Steves maps do not show all streets or name all the streets. Very frustrating when semi-lost, standing on corner reading street name sign and it is not found on the map. You know you are close, but don't know which direction to go or how many 'blocks'.

I bought Barcelona popout map at AAA for my upcoming trip. It is on Amazon also but was a bit less $ at AAA. Folds nicely, opens nicely (but still small) and sturdy. Maybe even a bit rain resistant.

I also use mapsme on phone, but sometimes want a greater area view.

I’ve found openstreetmap.org to be great. You can select different layers in openstreetmap to illustrate ground contours, bicycle routes, etc. In using this source, be sure to use the scale shown in Metric and Imperial units. It is small and appears in the lower left hand corner of the screen. In larger cities, including Barcelona, the Metro stations are clearly shown upon "zooming in". They are noted as small blue squares, and the station name appear as you zoom in.

If you have Snagit screen capture software, you have even more flexibility in creating the maps you need. Depending on the type printer you have, you can print letter, legal or perhaps 11" x 17". Sizes.

I have found streetwise maps to be the finest travel maps made. These are high quality and laminated with other pertinent maps (metro) included in an easy to carry format. Amazon.com is your friend for these!

Hotels virtually always have free maps. Quality varies from city to city. At one time it was popular to put little pictures of important buildings on the maps, obscuring the names of some streets and in some cases even entire streets. That trend seems to have faded, thank heavens.

In 2016 the Tourist Office beneath Placa de Catalunya sold enhanced city map for 1 Euro. It was very good.
