Heading to Barcelona this fall to see our son who's doing a semester abroad there. Besides seeing Barcelona (I've heard it's an awesome city), we thought southern France would be a nice addition for us...since we enjoy small villages, great food and vineyards! Perhaps for a week or 10 days. Then flying to Lisbon to cruise home. Thought we'd spend a couple days or so there prior to sailing.
Haven't been to any of these areas (except Paris), so any thoughts or ideas for us would be much appreciated from you seasoned travellers! Thank you!!
I'd recommend picking (from library would be fine) a guidebook with comprehensive coverage of Catalunya and southern France. There's lots to see in Catalunya between Barcelona and the French border, in addition to all the possibilities in France. I'm sure there are vineyards, but I don't know where the most convenient ones are.
Are you prepared to rent a car for at least part of the time after you leave Barcelona?
