Hi, My husband and I are traveling to Barcelona at the end of May for a business trip. Since it will be our 30th anniversary we would like to extend our trip and visit someone else in Europe for 3-4 days. any suggestions?
Mallorca is close to Barcelona and would be ideal for a few days. Make it an island anniversary.
... I know you guys like to hoop ridiculous distances when you visit the Old Continent, LOL!, but I'm going to propose you a different plan: spending a couple of days in a picturesque small town in the Costa Brava, the rough coast located in the northern part of Catalonia, a couple of hours from Barcelona (no flight involved!).
So, just in case it sounds like a plan check it out... Costa Brava. And although there are plenty of small towns to choose from, among my preferred would be Cadaqués -home to Salvador Dalí for many years-, Calella de Palafrugell or Pals among other. And if you'd like to throw in a bit of impressive mountain ranges in the mix, the Catalan Pyrenees are just a short drive away too -short as in literally less than an hour from anywhere in Costa Brava, and just a couple or so from Barcelona.
Needless to say, that there are plenty other "plans" worth exploring while based in Barcelona: nature, historical, gastronomical... all of them within Catalonia -the small nation where Barcelona is capital of, and which is just the size of Maryland- and none requires taking a flight or driving for hours on end, such as... these routes. Btw, get acquainted with Catalonia here.
PS: Since the above video about Costa Brava is very spectacular but doesn't help much locating the towns, here another one with pictures and names!
We absolutely loved Cadaques. All the white buildings next to the blue sea - gorgeous! If you have to go to another country, then Collioure just over the border in France - another great spot.
