Barcelona restaurants with kids

Hi !
We Will be in Barcelona in july for 5 Nights. We travel with our kids (5 and 9). We have some questions about restaurants.

1)Are kids well accepted ?
2) They are used to eat at Noon and 18:30.....and sleeps around 20:30. Not Barcelona schedule at all ! Any tips about that ?
3) We would like to eat tapas (Tapeo seems great).
4) We Will stay in an appartement near Muntaner and Carrer de Londres.
5)Any restaurants recommandations ?

Thanks !

Yes, kids are well accepted but you will want to go ahead and put them on a Spanish schedule. Makes dealing with jet lag easier. Just keep them on US East Coast time and that should be about right.

Thanks for that insight !

I dont understand it much, how could I get them to Spain schedule by keeping them on the time we are in.

Ok, so you are six hours behind Barcelona. So don't fully adjust them - it will be easier. Keep them up until 10:30 and plan for 8:30 dinners. Last time we were in Barcelona our friends with kids joined us from Boston and they kept their kids on Boston time and we had a ball.

As others have said Children are very welcome in Spanish restaurants (as long as they behave themselves!). We were in Barcelona in February and with two young children, one of whom is very rigid with his routine, who typically go to bed at 8pm and a bit later on weekends. Many restaurants don't open until 8pm and that was the time when many people with young children visited. We soon adapted to a larger meal at lunchtime and a snack in the apartment later on.

Having a larger, more leisurely lunch is a good idea since that is a more standard meal time your kids will be used to. But the late dinners can be a problem even for adults used to eating around 18:00 or 19:00. So unless they adjust, just plan on having tapas which are served early and are light enough to feed kids thoroughly. Some restaurants will be open, but those will not be all that good and will focus exclusively on the tourist trade. And avoid anything on the Ramblas - those are all overpriced and of poor quality.

Also, with an apartment, you can easily pick up food and eat dinners at home.

Wow thanks a lot to everyone ! You gave me very good advices that Will be very usefull.

Seems that the best will be to have a good lunch around 14 and eat more lightly for the evening meal.

Someone suggest tapas....those are avaible all day long ?

Here in Montreal kids are not allowed to be in places who serves only drinks ( no food) us if the same in Spain ?

It seemed to me that in Barcelona the tapas came out from about noon to 2 PM and from 8 to 10 PM. That was in August.

Markets that have tapas stands (San Miguel in Madrid being the prime example) may have tapas from opening to closing.
