Barcelona Private Tour with Kids

Hi! This travel forum was a tremendous help when we were planning our 2017 trip to Italy with our kids so looking to you all again for more help 😊. Can you recommend any private tours geared towards kids for any of the major sites in Barcelona? We partook in two different tours while in Rome and they helped the history come alive for our girls. We are going to Barcelona in April (arriving the weekend of Easter) for a week during our Spring Break. Our youngest is in 1st grade in a Spanish Immersion program so we are excited for her to see the usefulness of knowing Spanish! Of course, this American here didn't realize that Catalan is the primary language in Barcelona and not Spanish. Darn!

Thanks, in advance!

Hi, in Barcelona it's about 50/50 between Spanish and Catalan (they are co-official languages), I think there will be plenty of opportunities to practice both.

As for private tours, I am not sure about ones specifically for children. However, I would recommend checking out the Maritime Museum of Barcelona (located next to the Columbus statue), it was recently renovated and brings to life the medieval/Renaissance naval history of Barcelona in a fairly kid friendly and hands on way. Hi Steph

1.) Catalan is indeed the local language, and you'll notice that more outside of the metropolis of Barcelona. But if you use Spanish people will understand you as well since Spanish is also studied at the school and also because there are lots of people whose ancestors were from elsewhere in Spain and they maintain Spanish as their mother tongue. If your kid would like to surprise some native Catalans... ask him to learn these simple words and sentences: http://wikitravel.org/en/Catalan_phrasebook Obviously you can also communicate in English :))

2.) Some suggestions for kid-oriented tours:

http://bit.ly/BCNkids_trencadis -a fun activity learning Gaudí's technique
CosmoCaixa (cat) : http://infocatalonia.eu/w/aGVve -a great science museum
Catalonia's History Museum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n90MXm2GC50 -very interactive, worth visiting

Enjoy!
