We're staying 2 nights in Barcelona pre-cruise in September. I've been looking at Hostal Marenostrum and Hostal Mimi. Both are economical however Mimi is almost half the price (wondering what's the catch).
We're not picky about our accommodations other than wanting a great location, which both of these seem to be. Differences I've noted are a lack of a/c at Mimi and not all rooms have a private bathroom. Marenostrum includes breakfast. Has anyone stayed at either of these properties?
I have not stayed at either, but the average high in Barcelona is 79. I would definitely want air conditioning. I suspect the "catch" you mentioned involves sweating to death. :)

MiMi is rated just one star which can mean the standard is quite lacking. I don’t have any problem staying at properties rated 2 star by European standards. Check TripAdvidor reviews.
Both located on the Ramblas however, which I would advise to avoid due to noise and the risk of petty theft.
