Any recommendations on amount of time to tour Park Guell. I know its a trip out there from old center so I have info on that, just wondering if we can squeeze it in!
Well, I've gathered that I'm faster at sites than a lot of people tend to be, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. I was there last month. I needed no more than an hour there. It was nice but I would fit other sites in before I'd go there. If you're looking at Gaudi buildings, I'd do Casa Batllo and La Pedrera both before I'd do the park. I know they're expensive and that there's common advice to only do one of them, but I really really enjoyed them both....more so than the Park. There's other buildings that get mentioned here a lot as well, which I didn't have time to do: one that comes to mind (not Gaudi) is Palau de la Musica Catalana...we only got in the lobby of this place and even that was beautiful.
Two hours maximum would be reasonable to allow. Interestingly, since an entry fee was imposed, the average length of visit has increased somewhat, proving people linger longer when they have paid to see something.
Thanks guys!! Yes I have tickets to La Padrera. How did you get out to the Park Guell. Bus or taxi?
Taxi. 10 Euros from the Hotel Europark. Then we walked back down...very nice.
Carol,
Sagrada Família is 2,5km on a gentle downhill slope from Park Güell, so say, 40' walk. Having said that, I always advise to detour a bit and visit the neighbourhood of Gràcia, have lunch there and then head to the Sagrada Família for an early afternoon visit, say 3:30-4:00 when it's (or might be) slightly less crowded. For further info re:Gràcia check my answer to @JJ2579 and check for my suggestion on WED 16: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187497-i44-k7350676-First_Timers_Help_With_5_Day_Itinerary-Barcelona_Catalonia.html#57433425
This is the itinerary I suggest: http://bit.ly/DIYroute-pg-sf
If I'm not mistaken this is what Valerie did when she visited Barcelona, didn't you Val?
@Enric - Yes! It's exactly what I did! I highly recommend Enric's suggestion to stroll down through the Gracia...it was lovely.
Thank you all for very helpful info. It's our 6th European trip but first to Spain. All done using Rick's books as our bible!! He never steers us wrong!
