Hi, can anyone recommend a good map of Barcelona that has streets AND metro stops on it? I have only been able to find one or the other, which, for me, makes it difficult to get oriented. Thanks.
Knopf mapguides has a city map of Barcelona that we bought in a few years ago. It has the information you want. Bookstores can order it for you if they don't have it in stock. Or you could look online. Some cities in the series are out of print...but you might be able to get a used copy online if Barcelona turns out to be one of those cities. Published by Alfred A. Knopf, a division of Random House.
I will look into it, thank you. I have no problem with maps for many other Euro cities, not sure why this one's so difficult! Thanks!

The Pro version (on sale often for $10) lets us download maps to phone and/or iPad.
... a few (free) suggestions:
- You can download Google Maps for Barcelona into your phone so you can browse it while in Barcelona WITHOUT having to have a data connection. This is by far the best and most accurate (up-to-date) solution. Alternatively, this app also offers a similar solution.
- You have great metro maps in each metro station. Easy to spot and to read. Still, you can download it here too.
- In the back of many bus stops you can find a detailed map of the area, indicating not only street names but also metro stops and bus lines.
- the City Hall offers some great free apps you can download on your Android or Apple phone. For public transportation, you want the one called TMB App, which also offers you live info on buses.
- Also for public transportation, check this website: https://maps.tmb.cat/en/vullanar
- ... and finally, (most of us) we Barcelonians are warm and friendly, if you need a direction DO ASK politely and 9 out of 10 times you'll have someone making his/her best to help you. Don't be surprised if some people offer to accompany you part of the way to your destination. Language is almost never a barrier, be because many speak other languages, be because you don't necessarily need words to communicate.
Thanks, all. However, I don't use phone apps for maps when I travel! The one metro map recommended by Enric, I already have and printed - none of these show city streets very well. I guess I'll just have to work with what I have! Appreciate everyone's input!
Bring up the Goigle Map in your computer screen. Then print the screen, or snip and save it, then print it.
Again, note that you can download a Google Map on your phone so you can check it while travelling abroad without having to pay for data roaming: https://support.google.com/maps/answer/6291838?co=GENIE.Platform=Android&hl=en Assuming you carry your phone with you when travelling, this is probably your best bet. Just sayin'.
Printing a Google Map from your computer screen is not viable... Barcelona is a large city, to fit the whole map in your screen you wouldn't be able to read anything :)
Once in Barcelona you can get a decent map for typical tourist use at the tourist office. I picked mine up at the small office in Sants Station, but there's a larger office beneath Placa Catalunya and another in or near the Barri Gotic. I think there were two options: a free map and a 1-euro map. Since I was going to be in Barcelona for ten days, I was happy to pay for the 1-euro map.
There's a limit to how many heavy-duty maps (like Streetwise) I want to carry around on a long trip. It's not like I'm going to throw them away as soon as I leave the city in question. But I am really uncomfortable arriving in a city without even the most basic map sufficient to get me to my hotel. And day-trips to smaller places where the tourist office might turn out to be closed (or nonexistent, in the case of Great Britain) left me nervous until I discovered the joys of offline maps--CityMaps2GoPro in my case, though it was unreliable last summer. If I have to be back at the train or bus station at a particular time, I am massively uncomfortable without constant access to a map.
dflawyers: Google Maps is good but still doesn't show all the metro stops relative to streets/street names.
enric: you assume incorrectly; I never need a phone and do not use my cell when I travel. Only twice did I need one - to contact a rental apartment landlord when I arrived; usually they are just there to greet me without a phone call.
acraven: thank you! You're a traveler after my own heart! I like paper in my hands, particularly for when I arrive, as you mentioned. I am female and travel alone, and feel secure in knowing where I am going and how to get there, without having to ask for assistance, as if I have "TOURIST" written across my forehead! I have already ordered a Rough Guide map for Barcelona; the ones I have for Paris and Rome show metro stops, so that might end up being all I need. I'll look into the TI; I also have found that, if I email in advance, some cities' visitor services will send me a good city map.
