Wife and I, both seniors, plan five days in Barcelona in late September/early October before Rick Steves
My Way trip. Our first visit to Spain. Looking for moderately priced hotel near city center as we want to walk or use public
transit to visit major sites. All suggestions appreciated.
We did the RS Best of Spain in the spring and the tour stayed at the Hotel Catalonia Portal de l’Angel, a few blocks south of Plaza Catalunya. We added three nights there before the tour. We found it to be a great location—centrally located, and we could walk to most sights (we took the subway to Mont Juic and the museums there). The street the hotel is on is pedestrian only, so it was quiet. We found the hotel staff to be friendly, also.
I just stayed at the H10 Urquinaona Plaza recently and really liked it. There is a metro stop right in front of the hotel with walking to many sites very easy. I booked a room with a terrace and am glad I did it since we could have drinks and relax on it after a day of touring. If you join the H10 club, you get a better rate, free drinks and free breakfasts during your stay. We found the breakfasts to be very good. There is a nice roof top area with a plunge pool. The H10 group of hotel is nice and there are many in Barcelona to choose from. P.S. Be sure to book an entrance ticket and tour of Sagrada Familia. Oliver was our tour guide and he was fabulous.
