Barcelona Lodging

Greetings:

This summer our family and friends of ours, both with a 7 and two 9 yr. olds, are going to rent an apt. in Eixample district. I have found some choices, so now am trying to decide which area of Eixample to stay in. Is the eastern edge near the Auditorium of Music a good location? It looks to be close proximity to the beach, Parc de la Ciutadella, and what looks to be more of the center of the city to the east, and not too far from La Sagrada Familia. I assume this is a safe area and not too loud? It would be nice to be able to walk to places, but public transportation is fine too. I assume it is important to get an apt. w/ A/C in the summer. In looking at some recent posts on this forum, this may not be as central as other areas of Eixample. Hmmm.

I'm leaning towards choosing an apt. from Airbnb. Here's a recent search w/ options. Hopefully it will work in your browser.

Thank you.

In principle it should be quiet and not loud -although in Barcelona that depends on the street you're apt is located rather than on the area. What's the exact address anyway?... depending how "east" it might be not so convenient to move to/from the other parts of the city, especially the Barri Gòtic, which you're bound to spend lots of time in.

Don't have exact address, but have Carrer de la Marina, and "next to" Academy of Music. Here is the listing. Looks a bit east. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3496888 . The other posts on this forum mention being closer to Passeig de Gràcia. I thought I read it is hard to walk the entire city though (especially w/ young children), so wouldn't one use a lot of public transit regardless?

I guess what area is the flat in, for what you mention is got to be around http://bit.ly/1GIGlbz... It's not badly located, but it gets a bit deserted past 8ish, not a lot going on nor many people walking by. It's a perfectly safe area, but can be a bit intimidating not having many people walking by. Btw, the "Academy of music" is likely to refer to the Auditorium, a building next to the National Theatre of Catalonia.

But, if you have the chance, I'd check instead the area near Rambla de Catalunya or Passeig de Gràcia, it's a more lively: http://bit.ly/1GIHosd or even in the Enric Granados street, two blocks to its left, which is mostly a pedestrianized street, great both for walking with kids and for assuring quiet nights :)

And yes of course, you can't possibly "walk" the city (http://bit.ly/BCNhoods), much less with three kids, but there's a great public network of buses and metro. However, in order to avoid having to be taking the metro/bus too often, that's why I would recommend the area I mentioned earlier as it's far better to walk to most attractions, better communicated (bus lines/metro) and, most importantly, it doesn't get deserted.

I always think Eixample 'right' is preferable - somewhere close to Girona & Tetuan metro stops.
Sagrada Familia to the north / Passeig de Gracia (Casa Batllo & Casa Mila) to the west / Barri Gotico ( Ramblas & Palau de la Musica) to the south

Just to piggyback....i have rented an apartment in the Bari Gotic section of the city for 10 days in July. The address is 27 Carrer de Ripoll. Is that a safe place to stay? Quiet at night or noisy? Appreciate any advice.

Hi Steve ;)
Yes it's perfectly safe (noting you're in a city anyway so be street-wise!), and should be not noisy albeit all those small streets and alleys in the Old City are really very compact so someone nearby whispering at wee hours can be heard -if your window's open that is.

You are not far from my favourite patisserie in Barcelona - "La Colmena" by Jaume I metro stop.

Any of these addresses ok, or better than the other? Thx...
Carrer de València, 549
Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 691

Well, both are in traffic-busy (=noisy) streets, but gram for gram I'd prefer Carrer València as G.V.C.C. has in all 8 lanes!
