Barcelona-ish Itinerary for Old Lady with a Car

Hi - I'm a 70-year old lady who'll be traveling to Barcelona in May on a week-long volunteer trip. Prior to volunteering, I'm staying in Sitges for 5 nights to explore in and around Barcelona. I much prefer villages and small towns to major touristy sites; like I'd much rather visit a small church or chapel than a cathedral, or visit a local artist co-op rather than a museum. I'll have a car and usually plan a direction to go in each day, taking my time and stopping at places that catch my eye. I love to walk in neighborhoods, and shop and dine local. I'm really looking forward to seeing the coast and interesting inland places.

So, what places and neighborhoods should I visit in Barcelona itself, and what day trips within a 2-3 hour radius should I take? I can't wait to hear your ideas!

Thanks,
Gin

Hi Gin,
This doesn’t exactly answer your question, however I did love Sitges when I visited last September. It’s a very pretty place, with beautiful beaches and interesting museums. Great for walking! I walked every day along the beachfront promenade and it was just great! I stayed at the Calipolis hotel which was close to all interesting sites. Great breakfast too. If it’s in your budget I would try and get an ocean view room. I was lucky to have a festival happening when I was there- it was so much fun. Sitges is a very inclusive community with every person included no matter what their ideals or sexual orientation. It’s very friendly to the gay community which I loved! As a single woman I found it fun and inclusive. I hope you have a fun trip! Barcelona is amazing too! One of my highlights from Spain!
