Barcelona in June- with kids-need suggestions

Hi- we are going to be in Spain for about 5-6 days. We land in Barcelona and thinking of spending 3 full days there. Then we have two extra days and wondering if we should do some day trips like Montserrat, Girona, Tarragona or Sitges..., or should we move base and go to Seville? Any suggestions? We have two kids (8&10).

It sounds too much for kids and even adults to have to pack up from Barcelona to try to go to Seville so just stay and use Barcelona (there is a lot to see and do there) as a base (play it by ear) to explore nearby cities on day trips Girona Figueres, Montserrat Tarragona all sound good.

Agree. Stay in the Barcelona area. There's tons to see and do there. Your children will probably love being able to walk on top of the wall in Girona. (Perhaps you can do that in Tarragona, too? I've never been there.) I imagine the June weather will be nice for walking at Montserrat.

I was in Seville in early April and it was almost too hot to enjoy. In June it will probably be a blast furnace. That's not to mention the money and hassle of relocated from one end of the country to the other, for only two days.

So, as long as you're in Barcelona, stay there. You may find enough to fill 5 days in Barcelona itself. It's not hard, particularly if the kids are enthralled by Modernista architecture. If you need a break from formal sightseeing, there's an amusement park on Tibidabo: http://www.tibidabo.cat/en/. Rides and great views - who can resist?

They'll probably also like the cable car (telefèric) up to the top of Montjuic, This is not to be confused with the funicular. The funicular has no views; the cable car has great ones. There are beaches in Barcelona too.

I loved Girona, and haven't been to the other places you listed, but all of them are easy day trips. So, no need to decide in advance; see how you all feel when you're there.

Thank you all so much for the responses. Looks like it's a slam dunk. Makes it easy for me. Will now look for apartments in Barcelona.

On the subject of Modernista architecture, I loved my tour of the Casa Batllo, and feel it was actually worth the high admission fee. I mention it for you because included in your admission is an iPod touch guide that make the house "come to life." For instance, you point it at the fireplace, and you see a fire in it; you point it at the model of the house, and the model breaks apart and shows you the sections. This, plus the "first I'll sprinkle the fairy dust on you" appearance of the house itself, would make it a fun excursion for both the kids and the adults in your family.

One thing that's free to see is the exterior of the Casa Comalat (no inside access allowed). There are actually two facades - you want to see the back one. It's only a couple of blocks from the Casa Mila. Here's a picture, which only gives a flavor - you have to see it to believe it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Modernista_buildings_in_Barcelona#/media/File:Salvador.Valeri.i.Pupurull.Casa_Comalat.Back.Barcelona.JPG

Casa Batllo is worthwhile, but it really, really packs 'em in. Just be prepared for a mob scene. Fortunately, it's not like an art museum and you can still see what you want to see.

Montjuic and the "magic fountains" would be fun for the kids. Also not to miss is Parc Guell and the block of discord.
