What to do in Barcelona for 3 days?

We arrive in Barcelona via train from Madrid on a Sunday afternoon in Sept. We leave again on Wed afternoon. Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to fill 2.5 days in Barcelona??

1.. Sagrada Familia...get your ticket in advance on line and avoid the line which can be long...2 or more hours at a minimum. Be sure to sit on one of the chairs and take in the grandeur of the place, even with all the milling tourists walking here and there.

  1. Bario Gotic...wander the streets which adjoin the lower Las Ramblas...see the Picasso Museum, the Santa Maria Del Mar church, eat at Bernies Dinner (American, but excellent)

  2. Check out the beach and the Olympic village...lots to see and do.

  3. Walk, walk, walk, and experience a wonderful city!!!

If you are in Barcelona between Sept 19 and Sept 24 and you are near the La Rambla area, it's the Le Merce festival, Barcelona's largest festival. Non-stop music, parades and the famous Gigantes (giants). It's not to be missed if you are there during this time.

Barcelona is a great city. I would recommend the following.

Visit Sagrada Familia, Picasso Museum, walk the Ramblas, visit the Cathedral and go to the Park Guell. I'm a big Gaudi fan so there are lots of places to see his work. I also enjoyed doing the hop on hop off bus tour. This took me all over the city including the former Olympic area and dropped my off at Sagrada Familia which made it easier than getting there on my own. I also really enjoyed walking through the market. La Boqueria-it was a great experience and I got lots of excellent photos.

Jenn has excellent suggestions. Parc Guell is just amazing. Note, however, that the two metro stops shown near Parc Guell are not really close and, they are at the bottom of some fairly steep hills up to the Parc (we have walked down these hills to the metro stops). Best way to get there is to take the number 24 bus up to the Parc Guell stop. Here's a link to the bus route. http://www.tmb.cat/ca/c/document_library/get_file?uuid=4ff9da83-eb9a-4498-a77d-99c1ff9b7366&groupId=10168 You end up across the street from one of the entrances. Walk through the park, visit the Gaudi house and then walk further to other amazing Gaudi features including the world-famous Gaudi chameleon. http://gyazo.com/52d8f1ca0033712dcd3c815bad3acf53

As a side note, Jenn has suggested visiting La Sagrado Familia and separately to visit the cathedral. Many think that La Sagrada Famila is a cathedral. It's not. It's a minor basilica. The beautiful cathedral in Barcelona is elsewhere in the city and is the seat of the bishop of the archdiocese. It should be on your visit list.
