Barcelona Hotel Recommendations

I used Booking.com and reserved a room for 8 nights at the Senator Spa Hotel located near Camp Nou. The price was reasonable and it seemed to be a good hotel. I am now reading the reviews on Booking.com and it seems like it is not what it seems to advertise. I am wondering if anyone has a good recommendation somewhere reasonably priced (I would prefer not to pay more than $1000 US) in a more centrally located area, maybe the Ramblas area. I will be staying for approximately 8 nights in the beginning in August 2015. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

We stayed at the Hotel Denit in November 2013, recommended by Rick Steves. Great breakfast and well-located, with a 24-hour front desk. August prices run about €100 per night and breakfast was included with our stay. E-mail them at info@denit.com to see about availability.

Among the listings in Rick's guidebook, most Barcelona hotels have a range of prices, depending on season and specific room, as well as pluses and minuses that you probably want to read about before choosing. The most straight-forward and quite-nice sounding listing that costs "only" €105 per night for a double is www.hotelbanysorientals.com. If you still don't have Rick's Spain book for planning your trip, then I suggest you buy it now, on sale.

If you are staying 8 nights, you might want to research apartment rentals. There are many rentals in Barcelona in great areas for around 100 euros per night. An apartment would give you room to spread out and having even snacks in your apartment would save you money. There are good supermarkets and La Boqueria where you can buy ingredients for simple meals if you wish.

Thanks all. i am actually now researching apartment rentals for Barcelona. Any ideas which site to view? Vrbo? AirBNB? somewhere else?

I've used Home Away, VRBO and a number of smaller sites with good results. Friendly Rentals has gotten some mixed reviews but I've had good luck with them. When researching for a trip recently, I found promising apartments at Easy Flat Barcelona but haven't actually rented from them. On the Slow Travel site, there are many good reviews for BCN Gotic.
Your biggest problem will likely be narrowing it down to one apartment since there are so many available. Good luck with your research..

I booked the Pensio2000 for my upcoming trip next month, at €70 for a double room. Their website says €70-80 for a double. There was a misunderstanding and they originally offered me €90, because they thought my dates were during some huge conference. Breakfast is extra, €5 pp. It was very easy and fast to deal with them by email.

Since this is my first visit to Barcelona, I relied on their website and reviews. It sounds great and well-located. I don't remember if I found it through tripadvisor or from a recommendation here.

I would definitely stay in an apartment for that length of time.
vrbo is one of the best sites to visit and they have many apartments in all price ranges.
I would prefer a location in Eixample (the grid area o the city), between Sagrada Familia and Passeig de Gracia.
The area around Girona metro is a pleasant neighbourhood with some great restaurants.
The Ramblas and Bari Gotico/Raval are quite noisy with security considerations as well.

I just got back and stayed at Hotel Inglaterra. Very nice. Great location. Very clean. Rooms were small by American standards but adequate. Mine overlooked the street so bring ear plugs if you normally sleep with the windows open. Someone was always at the front desk who could help. I got this as a package deal with Travelocity so I can't speak to the room cost. When I checked in, they told me that the breakfast is normally 15 euros / day. Pretty expensive. When I said I wasn't interested, they said that if I took it for all 5 days of my stay, it would be 8 euros (plus 10% city tax) which worked out to about $10 per day. It was a full buffet and worth it.

I loved Hotel Constanza in the Eixample. They were very helpful with everything and had a nice terrace and roof bar where I met some very cool German architects and had a great time.
I don't know if you prefer to be closer to sites or nightlife-I'm more of a food/drink/nightlife person so the next time I go I will stay in El Born, where I spent the majority of my evenings.
