Hola! We will be in Barcelona with our teenage girls, this summer. Can anyone recommend a centrally located hotel that has family rooms?
Hi, Catherine,
We haven't been there yet so I can't tell you if it's a good choice or not, but we have a reservation for a triple (me, my husband, our 19-year-old son) in May at https://www.hostaloliva.com/en/
and they have a quadruple room, which looks like 3 beds plus a sofa bed. I found that "family rooms" tend to have one or two tiny extra beds for young kids, not fit for our 6 ft. tall teenager, so I started searching for triples instead.
We had a good experience with family rooms at Hotel Lleo 3 yrs ago in July. Good AC, clean and kids still say their fav breakfast!
It’s getting harder to find triple rooms in hotels in Barcelona for a few simple reasons.
First, hotels make more money with double rooms. If they sell two doubles instead of one triple, they usually earn more per square metre, so many renovations have reduced or eliminated triple rooms.
Second, space is tight. A lot of hotels are in older buildings where rooms weren’t designed for three proper beds. When they refurbish, they often prioritise more standard rooms instead of larger ones.
There’s also demand. Most visitors come as couples, solo travellers, or business guests, so hotels focus on doubles. Groups of three often end up booking apartments instead.
The result is that triple rooms still exist, but there are fewer of them, and they tend to get booked quickly. If you need one in Barcelona, it’s something you usually have to plan ahead.
