Barcelona Hotel Recommenation

We are looking for a hotel for 2 seniors (75 yrs), 5 nights in Barcelona, September 12-17, about $100 a night.
We want a great location with easy and convenient public transportation. We arrive by plane or train from Granada and depart by plane for Nice.

In 2008 I stayed at Hotel Lloret on the Ramblas. It was convenient to the Metro and the airport bus. Rates were very reasonable then. The big open market is just down the Ramblas from the hotel.

Our family with teens stayed at the Meson Castilla 2 summers ago and found it very comfortable, clean and the breakfast was delicious. It has a nice outdoor eating area to eat in if you want and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. It has a lift and is in a quiet area. have fun!

While there are different areas of Barcelona I am sure you might enjoy, I'd probably recommend an hotel in l'Eixample district for you, especially one near Passeig de Gràcia or Rambla Catalunya boulevards, at the heart of the district. It's a classy and elegant area very centrally located, close to the Old City and other districts often visited by tourists. This is a short video in which you can have a glimpse of the area. This area has a few of the most popular attractions such as Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, Casa Ametller, Casa Lleó i Morera or the famous temple of Sagrada Família and close to it the Sant Pau Centre Modernista among many other. [The latter two are a bit further from the boulevards I mentioned but in an equally very nice area to the right corner of l'Eixample]

For extra info, find here a map of the districts of the city, its neighbourhoods and the metro map for easily getting your bearings :))

PS: I apologize for not recommending specific hotels but living here and not working in the tourism business I don't really have much use for them and in a city so dynamic like Barcelona I can't possibly be "in the loop" on this. But when you finally choose one, feel free to ask about the location and I'll gladly try to add useful information.

Check out the Hotel Continental Barcelona. We enjoyed our stay there for several nights a few years ago. Excellent, really excellent location on Las Ramblas one minute from Placa Catalunya. Not posh by any standard, and perhaps even funky, but great location and price and friendly people. We were treated very nicely throughout our stay. 24 hour free coffee, beer, wine, drinks and snacks...certainly not the finest, and plastic cups, but we spent every evening on the balcony, plastic vino in hand and had no complaints. Nice little breakfast area, seating outdoors too.
