Barcelona hotel—“now for something completely different”

To paraphrase the old Monty Python routine.

We are returning to Barcelona next May for a short celebratory visit, and would like something more upscale than the usual quaint, family-run Rick Steves hotel.

We like modern, even minimalist, places that would be described with the terms “design hotel” or “urban chic”. There seem to be quite a few in Barcelona, and I am having trouble sorting through them all. Budget to 280 euros (that does limit it somewhat) and the requirements are (1) location, fairly near but not on Placa Catalunya, either toward the Gothic Quarter or the Eixample; (2) a rooftop terrace with bar and small pool, and (3) a walk-in shower (rain shower), not a shower/bathtub combo. A Nespresso machine and/or a small balcony on the room would be a nice bonus. Breakfast need not be included.
If anyone has stayed at such a place and loved it, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Look at the Hotel Europark. It's in a great location, has the rooftop terrace with bar and pool. We booked one of the penthouse suites and it was about $200 per night off season. The suite had a large deck overlooking the Mediterranean. The bathroom was huge and had a walk-in shower. We felt it was a fantastic deal for such luxury. We were traveling off-season (April).

Thank you! I had read of the Europark on the TripAdvisor Barcelona forum; it seems well-regarded by someone there as well. U232 sounds familiar from my last Barcelona visit but I cannot remember what I liked about it.

I am on childcare duty with my grandchildren starting in a few minutes so will check out all suggestions later today, so keep them coming!

Has anyone stayed at the Olivia Balmes or the H 10 Cubik?

I should add that convenient transport from and to the El Prat airport is also a consideration. I am familiar with the airport bus which goes to Placa Catalunya, but are there good options to other locations in the Eizemple, besides taxi?

From the Europark, we walked to that airport bus. It was fine - less than 15 min. We travel super light - carry on only.

Check out the Cotton House Hotel and the Renaissance Barcelona Fira, both Marriott properties. Both have pools and are pretty upscale. Cotton House is much more in-town but the Renaissance is right on the Metro line and its pool is really neat looking.

I would highly recommend Hotel Midmost. It is a few minutes from Placa Catalunya. We stayed there last October and it was our favorite place that we stayed at in Spain. We had a lovely room with an outdoor patio. The roof top terrace is a great place to relax and have a cocktail and tapas. There is even a small wading pool on the roof top terrace. The breakfasts we amazing with organic fresh squeezed juices, fruit, and homemade pastry along with a warm breakfast. When we go back, I will stay there again,
