is this totally unreasonable to think we can get a clean, nice hotel for less than $225 a night in Barcelona in September? We don't want to stay in the gothic quarter as I hear it can be quite loud. We are middled aged so would like to be near the action but don't have to be IN it. Edited to add we are going the second full week (9/8)
I'd search at https://www.booking.com/
It gives you the option to see where hotels are located on the map of Barcelona.
Otherwise if you want something budget basic cookie cutter search
We stayed a few blocks from Gaudi’s Casa Mila and Casa Batllo in the affluent Eixample district at “BacHome Gallery B&B” recommended in Rick’s book. It’s a boutique hotel with just 7 rooms in a classic, historic building with AC, elevator, soundproof windows, & balconies with views. Great staff and a common panoramic-view room where coffee and treats are available all day long.
All for under $200 per night.
The big decision is always refundable or non-refundable. Kenko's idea sounds amazing. Sometimes he nails it, and non-refundable it might just squeek by in your budget in Septrmber (i looked). I'm hanging on to the name for a future visit.
Hotel Paseo de Gracia, also in the Eixample District and quite near to the Gaudi buildings mentioned by Kenko, is under your price point. Nice hotel, friendly staff, good size rooms on the flat side of the block facing the square (I loved this feature of buildings in this district), AC, great neighborhood, restaurants, very convenient to public transportation. I’d stay there again.
min, I looked on the hotel website in Sept, and the random mid week dates i checked were 265 euro a night prepaid, no cancelation. That would be close to $300. Maybe something is happening in town for the dates I checked.
Kenko, what other hotels have you stayed at in Barcelona? Or all your trips are the same place. Wouldn't blame you, it's nice.
I knew the city has gotten a bit pricy which is why I am following this. Its on mu bucket list. So thanks, all 3 of you.
Cosmopolitan Boutique Rambla in the Eixample is near
Gaudi’s mansions and also close to the Gracia neighborhood and Passeig de Gracia’s Metro/Rodalies train station. It was also under $200.
There must be a convention/special event the third week of September cuz there’s a big price difference between two of the weeks during September.
La Merce runs September 20-24. There also are the Gran Premi Catalunya de Moto motorcycle races September 5-7
And there likely are trade conventions also.
I agree maybe something’s up with those dates because I checked prices on Hotel Paseo de Gracia for this September 1 (for 3 nights) right before posting above and saw a double for €195 for refundable up to 24 hours in advance.
I only paid €120 a night for a 3 night stay last September! so big increase even over that. However, I made the reservation in April, so perhaps that effected prices as well.
min, the third week was when i checked. But I am flexible. I was just trying to get an idea. But I think you are correct, in Spain, prices are up over last year. From what little research I've done, when you read tourism is up in Europe to a big degree, it's Spain driving the numbers.
