Barcelona hotel for four (2 moms and 2 daughters)

I've been reading many of the suggestions for good hotels in this forum, but have not had any luck in tracking down a quad room. Does anyone have experience with finding a hotel or apartment that is not too expensive that might work for us? We are two moms travelling with two young but grown daughters, heading to Barcelona the first part of July, 2020 and staying 4 - 5 days. In order to cut costs we would all like to stay in the same room rather than get two. Thank you!

We couldn’t recommend the Hotel Denit (and their fantastic included breakfast) any more highly, and I just now peeked at their website. They do advertise an XL room, but even that still has a double or two twins. If you reach out to them, maybe they’re willing and able to put in a second bed? Maybe not, but I’d ask. You can’t beat the location or the value, otherwise.

Try booking.com, specifying 4 adults. I think you can also filter for a family room. Worst case, sort results by price.

You're very unlikely to find hotels with quad rooms -even hardly any hotel offering triple ones (proper triple ones, not a double with a folding guest bed!). That's something not common here. Space is a premium commodity in this city and they make more money renting two doubles.

As mentioned, it's best to search for an apartment. Homeaway, airbnb or booking.com are good starting points.

What about pricing a short let apartment? I tend to find them cheaper than many hotels and you can save a few dollars eating in for a few meals.

Also many European hotels charge by the person as opposed to the US model of by the room, so all 4 of you in the same room may not net the savings you’re used to in the US.

I'm picturing a lot of time wasted waiting for 4 women to get ready mornings with 1 bathroom.

just be careful, don't be an easy target - 'Barcelona crime wave tarnishes boom in tourism'

Barcelona city hall's head of security, Albert Batlle, has described the situation as "a crime crisis", and statistics seem to confirm that this trend began well before the summer.
Overall, crimes increased by 9% during the first six months of this year, compared with the same period in 2018.
Violent crimes were up 31% over the same period (with a rise of nearly 60% over the last three years), while robberies with force against businesses were up 66%.
"It's time to admit the situation is out of control," said Luis Sans, president of an association representing businesses on the Passeig de Gràcia, a major street running through central Barcelona.

We were in Barcelona for 8 days last October at stayed at the Hotel Colon, directly across the plaza from the Gothic Cathedral in the Gothic neighborhood. I could not recommend it more: lovely staff, fine rooms, decent breakfasts, EXCELLENT location, walkable to everything, and decently priced.

hey hey kate
hotels with quad rooms are few and far, rooms are small and some don't fit 4 people plus bags. look for 2 rooms in a hotel, you'll have 2 bathrooms which is so much better for 4 people. what are the daughters ages?
you are going during high season, higher prices (supply and demand). lots of issues with airbnb that i just stay away from them. don't know what you mean by "not too expensive", different strokes for different folks. with your group, i would rent an apartment, look for 2or3 bedroom/2 bath and location
booking.com filters on left side, click what you would like and go from there.
cross-pollinate.com put your info in and see what they offer. read the fine print and booking details carefully, some are cash euros on arrival, some except credit card, damage deposit, ability to leave luggage before checkin. i have taken cash euros from here (states), we wanted it and it was cheap enough with the discount. it's whatever floats your boat.
tripadvisor.com vacation rentals, and left side with filters.
don't wanna preach to the choir but read reviews, what's included what's not, an apartment gives you room to move around, enjoy a meal at the table, we always get a balcony/terrace great for coffee/happy hour, sit with maybe a view and fresh air, fridge for cold food, drinks, snacks. buy fruit, meats, cheese, bread, pastries have a picnic inside, any mobility issues, how many stairs/steps to climb with luggage, pack light, most have washers, not so many dryers so we just hang to dry.
hope this gives you some information to help you get started, glad to see you are starting early, you see something you like book it (know exact dates), what cancellation policy is. price justs goes up and up. good luck
aloha

As a recent experience, we were just in Barcelona last week and stayed at the AC Sants hotel, just across the street from the Sants train station. It is away from downtown, but since we were coming and leaving via the train station, it was convenient for that, and the metro was good enough that we were fine taking it into town each day.

We were also a group of 4 (two parents and two teens) and were able to book a "Junior Suite" which had 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed, for €195/night. It had just one bathroom, between the two bedrooms, so there wasn't necessarily a ton of privacy, but it worked well for us.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful advice and tips. I feel better equipped to search now. The info on crime has me a bit concerned but we'll take as many precautions as possible. Thanks again!

I echo other posters in recommending an apartment for your 2+2 party. We are a family of 4 (2 teens) and were in Barcelona just a few weeks ago. I use VRBO/Homeaway to book vacation rental apartments for all our family vacations now. As my kids get older, we find that a 2-bedroom apartment with kitchen and living area is much more comfortable than sharing a hotel room (and much more affordable than getting two hotel rooms). I miss the daily maid service, but the trade-off is more space for all of us and extras like fridge, stove, and often washer/dryer. Have fun!

Check out Hotel Gaudi. We love it. They have a Suite for 4 and have just opened July 2020 Bookings. 10% Discount for 3 nights or more. It's located across the street from Palau Guell. A pool on the roof. It's in a great location, about 100m from La Rambla and there's a police station on the corner of La Rambla. It's comfortable walking distance to just about everyplace you'd want to visit in the old city. Probably about €200 a night.

A nice Tapas bar down the street, mostly locals.

I have stayed 3 times (including this year) at Pensio2000. They only have about 7 rooms, but I know for sure at least one of them sleeps 6 or 7, my guess is that there are at least 4 beds.

Pluses - low rates, family-run, excellent location, self-regulated AC, comfortable beds, modern baths
Minuses - breakfast may not be great, family is on-site only from about 8 am to 8 pm, but available by the pension's phone 24/7, and it's 2 flights of stairs - but they have a pulley to handle your luggage up and down.
