Barcelona History Museum, MUHBA

Hello,

My wife and I will be visiting Barcelona in 2025 and would like to visit the Barcelona History Museum, MUHBA. We are unsure which tickets to purchase, however, and where to start our visit at MUHBA. Any advice where we should go to visit MUHBA? Also, can we purchase tickets there instead of online beforehand? Do we need separate tickets for several sites, or can we purchase one ticket for everything?

Thanks very much in advance.

I’ve been to various bits of it and I was looking at their website to remind myself - and it’s IMPENETRABLE!

I suggest the Plaça del Rei as a starting point - it takes you to some of the underground remains and is also a fairly substantial overview of the medieval history of Barcelona and I remember enjoying it.

I was there in November 2019 and just paid on the day. I think I visited a couple of other bits of the museum but I certainly didn’t prebook anything.

I think a lot of other parts of MUHBA are individual historic buildings that come under the aegis of the museum and you can wander around the city looking at them. Some bits are free, I think. The El Born cultural and memorial centre is, for example, as are some of the others.

Hi, just wondering if you wound up buying tickets in advance and if so, which ones? Or did you purchase day of? Their website is confusing! Thank you!

We went to the El Born site in February. It was a holiday and it turned out to be free of charge that day. It was not crowded at all. I doubt you'd ever need tickets in advance unless they were having a special event. The website is very confusing and doesn't seem to be working. It was on my list of possible things to do but not a priority. We really enjoyed it, especially the Roman ruins.

We went on a Saturday in late April 2024 and bought walk-up tickets at the Placa del Rei site. It was in the afternoon and there were no lines or crowds inside.
