Barcelona Gourmet Market

I am going to be in Barcelona during the Xmas holiday. We have reservations on the 24th and 25th for our main meal each day, but want to prepare for maybe having to eat something at our rental near Sagrada Familia.

Can someone suggest a nice market where we can get provisions? Hopefully somewhere that sells nice prepared meals.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about "gourmet markets", are you thinking of something like la Boqueria? There is a Mercado de la Sagrada Familia that is similar but smaller. I used to live in the area around la Sagrada Familia, I'd say Mercadona and Sorli are the supermarkets I'd usually go to on a day to day.

If you are open to going further, the lower level of El Corte Ingles on Plaza de Catalunya has an excellent gourmet market that is popular with both tourists and locals. Don't forget to try the local Christmas treat, called Turron – a nougat-like sweet usually mixed in with toasted almonds or even chocolate. I would be on the look out to try some. For sure, you can find a great selection of different turrones at El Corte Ingles market I mentioned.

Hi, if staying near la Sagrada Familia you could wander over a couple of blocks and go to the Mercat de l'Abaceria at the top of Passeig de Sant Joan. Some great stalls selling excellent cheeses, meats, fish and seafood, fruits and veggies. Here: https://mercatabaceria.cat/mercat/

To acechrist - would you be willing to share which restaurants you reserved for the 24th and 25th? We are also going to be in Barcelona that week and I have only heard back from Flaherty's and Nuria Restaurant (both will be open).

There are +14,000 restaurants in Barcelona... quite a few of them are open both days.

Also, be aware that the 26th is Sant Esteve and is also a public holiday and you may want to reserve somewhere for lunch or dinner on the 26th. Enjoy your visit
