Hello. I’m a huge fan of Gaudi and want to make sure I get a full dose when we’re in Barcelona in late May. Are tour/visit reservations required in advance? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
For the Sagrada Familia yes or you can wait in a very long line.
Based on my research for a March 2024 trip, the general consensus was:
Sagrada Familia - purchase in advance
Parc Guell - purchase in advance
La Pedrera - monitor, may be necessary to purchase in advance for specific time slots
Casa Batlo - monitor, may be necessary to purchase in advance for specific time slots
Palau de la Música - probably not necessary in advance unless you want an English tour, in which case monitor
Casa Vincens - advance purchase probably not necessary
Palau Güell - advance purchase probably not necessary
Non Gaudi, but great Modernism sites:
Casa Amatller - timed entry tours required, probably not necessary to purchase in advance, but you may want to check tour times
Recinte Modernista Sant Pau - advance purchase probably not necessary
I found the entrance predications above to be accurate. I was there at during slightly lower tourist numbers than I would expect May to be. Since it is easy to monitor availability, I would simply monitor any place you want to be sure not to miss.
The other possible frustration is the actual booking of tickets. A number of people reported difficulties in getting Sagrada Familia tickets with US cards from the US. I also had a bit of difficulty - couldn't use my usual CC, another was accepted. You might not want to put off until low availability if you expect you may need more time to complete a booking.
