Barcelona flights to Madrid

What's the best quality/most reliable airline in Spain?

  • Air Europa - $83/rt
  • Vueling - $85/rt
  • Iberia - $88/rt
  • Renfe - $120/rt

Also, we arrive at 10am from U.S., so how much time do we need to allocate for customs/immigration, baggage pickup, and transfer to domestic terminal? Any suggestions on best way to get from Barcelona International terminal to domestic terminal?

Based on RS Forum feedback, we decided to fly from BCN to MAD instead of taking the AVE.

You might want to consider staying overnight in Barcelona and then continuing to Madrid the next day. This would take care of potential problems with making a connection to a different airline. You could take the Aerobus from the Barcelona airport (5,90 euros) to Placa de Catalunya.

You can get Renfe (train, not airline) tickets a lot cheaper than that by buying about 60 days ahead of your trip. Mine was about 39 euros (one way). It takes you right to the city center without the additional transport from the airport. Renfe leaves Barcelona from Sants station. Not sure of the connection from Barcelona airport to there.

There's a metro or local train to the train station, Nancy. Fixed price one-way ticket type of thing.
There is a free shuttle bus between the terminals, and the terminals are quite a distance from each other, Ken.

That's what I figured, I just haven't done it. I was already in town before going to Sants.

Thanks everyone, but do you recommend any of the Spain airlines?

My wife and I flew on Iberia once, but haven't flown on Vueling or Air Europa. Are these typical low cost airlines?

Thanks, Ken

Vueling is fine. It is a budget airline owned by British Airways and Iberia I've taken it twice in the last year. The plane left on time and arrived on time. You just need to read the rules as far as checked and carry on baggage to see if you agree. Also they charge you to select a seat so you may want let the system default to select those for you.

Thanks Jazz+travels!

So, how much time should we allocate for Immigration/customs, baggage claim and transportation from our 10am arrival time at the Barcelona International terminal to the Domestic terminal for Vuerling airlines? We're looking a 1:30pm or 2:30pm flight to Madrid.

The Vuerling flight is $55 one-way versus the AVE train is $100/one-way.

Thanks!
